Hainsworth Mill Business Incubator
Posted on May 28, 2014
AspinallVerdi, alongside Calls Architecture and Rider Hunt, has been appointed by Leeds City Council and AW Hainsworth and Sons to provide a robust and commercially viable plan for the future redevelopment of part of Hainsworth Mill in Stanningley.
The Hainsworth Family have been producing woollen textiles within Stanningley since 1783 and they have occupied the current mill since 1882. With over 230 years of experience in textiles, the Hainsworth family manufactures many of the fabrics which represent iconic garments and interiors of the British Empire. Hainsworth are recognised for producing cloth for the Royal Guards, Royal Wedding uniforms and Steinway pianos.
Having survived the decline in the textiles industry, the Hainsworth’s are planning for the future and wish to redevelop a section of their factory to provide some 40,000 sqft of business incubation space for designers and other creative industries. This will create opportunities for Stanningley, contributing to the physical, social and economic regeneration of the area.
The team are exploring the reuse and architectural design issues of the complex mill buildings, the potential uses for the factory space and other ancillary facilities, and options for adding to the broader physical and economic regeneration of Stanningley.
